Today a comic book website (which shall remain name free) reprimanded me/deleted a thread I started because I was being rude. Comic guys are such pussies, no?
If you're curious, it was about how Robert Kirkman's column sucks and how I hoped they weren't actually paying him to produce it.

So after letting it settle for a few, I'm ready to declare the new New Pornographers CD the best one so far. It's not as busy/noisy as the 2nd one (a good album, but my least favorite) and each song sounds less like the best parts of a bunch of songs bunched into one song and more like complete things in and of themselves. I'm especially into the Dan Bejar songs which are usually my least favorites.
Finally, a new addictive album to replace Rilo Kiley's Execution of All Things.
Now, the new Death Cab for Cutie CD. Man, is it lyrically lazy/cheesy and boooooooring. Of course, that opinion could change in a week. Out fickling Ro at every turn...
...gross? Current Mood: reviewy

My movie goal did not get reached. I did get 3 out of 5 done though, the 3rd being the suprisingly clever 40 Year Old Virgin. I know you were just sitting there, wondering.

Just got back from Broken Flowers (got out of work early and thought, if I go home, I'll just look at porn...I should see a movie first) but first an intro:
I had low expectations as a.) I've never found Jim Jarmusch movies to be anything other than slow moving oddities that sometimes have entertaining moments and b.) I figured that another sad sack minimalist Bill Murray dramatic turn was going to be one too many so...
I really loved it. I know I know, I was surprised too. The acting, writing, direction, music, even the sets, were all spot on. So many little details to pick apart and nuanced, thought-out perfomances from everyone including has been's like Sharon Stone and usually awful people like Chloe Sevigny. And who doesn't want a best friend like Winston? It even had a great cat performance and a nude 15 yr old. The perfect way to end the summer I think.
I won't get into what it was about or anything, but it was good to see that Jarmusch was able to make a movie that actually WAS about something.
Definitely had a Sideways for people whose mothers weren't drinking merlot during the pregnancy feel to it.
I really do think that another movie where Bill Murray does this sort of acting WILL be one too many though. Somethng else please.
Two related notes:
The preview for Thumbsucker looked amazing with what looks to be the perfect Keanu performance and I say that in all seriousness. Looking forward to that. NOT looking forward to movie version of RENT. It looked sooooo bad and dated and completely irrelevant. I'm still not sure about Walk the Line (har har). Looks like Ray with a white singer this time but we'll see.
And I plan to see 4 other movies this weekend. I'm off to a good start (didn't actually think I'd see one on Friday). The line up? The Constant Gardner, 40 Year Old Virgin, Junebug, and maybe Memory of Killer. Yeah, it's a friendless weekend. Current Mood: giddy for no reason

You know, I keep starting entries, but then they're just "eh" and I erase them. I've lost the touch. Current Mood: calm

Yes, baseball. I'm talking about it.
My favorite Red Sox player, Mark Bellhorn, is signing with my favorite team, the Yankees, today. Expect photoshopped pics of Bellhorn and Gary Sheffield (favorite Yankees player) later. Or don't. I dont' REALLY care about baseball but this is a cute development if you know anything about my Bellhorn/Sheffield obsession from last year.

Yes, I've lost another ex-girlfriend to the trappings of maturity.
For those of you keeping score, thats now 2 for engaged/married/pregnant, 1 for already-had-a-kid-when-we-dated, 1 for not-doing-any-of-those-things (yet), and 1 that I have no idea about.
Apparently I make people become mature.
A new New Pornographers album came out yesterday. I didn't know until I went to get comics yesterday; did youuuuuuuuuu?

I think I've grown a new mole on my face...right corner of my jaw...either that or it's cancer...Either way, welcome to my face, growth.
I went to a fetish flea market thing this weekend with Devin. I really wanted to find an affordable leather mask with a zipper mouth (a want I've had since like 4 years ago; the origin of which eludes me today) but no dice. It was fun though, if only for a.) the fact that Devin bought some leg cuffs and had to borrow money from me so the leather daddy that was selling them thought we had a Dom/Sub relationship and b.) some guy that was selling some old shitty looking dildo chair contraption told me, in reference to his product, that I could easily be replaced in Devin's life.
On on not-on-purpose related note, Devin and I also watched Alexander. It was sooooo boring and bad that we couldn't even begin to pick it apart. No redeeming value at all except for a brief elephant-centric battle in the woods which was at least something I'd never seen before. Worse than Hotel Rawanda.

PSS: I saw Hotel Rwanda, which I thought was overly melodramatic(which is dumb when you've got a good true story to work with), cliched to death, and so full of shitty writing that white character leave black characters to die in the pouring rain and say, "I am so ashamed!" Out loud. Just in case it isn't clear.
Think a black-faced Schindler's List with Wyclef Jean singing a song over the end credits. Seriously.
On a related note, I think the world is ready for a Tutsi zombie movie.
...but before I go, a question. Can someone (that's right, I'm looking at you, someone) explain to me why the following are considered to be sooo funny:
1. The Ali G. Show
2. Eddie Izzard's stand up
I've given both of these a fair chance and just don't get it. Okay, sometimes I get it but it's nowhere near consistent enough to warrant anything more than a, "that's alright, I guess."
I have genuine interest in getting to like these things, but I feel like I'm missing something. HELP!
PS: I am tempted to add Curb Your Enthusiasm to this list, but I've actually seen a few perfect episodes of that show so I get it.
I went to Red Sox game last night. The hotdogs were good.
Also, it was on comic day, so my lack of enjoyment may be due to that. Or baseball is just super boring and comics are not.
More stuff to say but I've got a caffine buzz that won't let me focus so you'll just have to wait.

Nothing to do at work...a troublesome situation for a temp.
|Saturday, July 30th, 2005|
I may in fact be in love with Miranda July (writer/director/lead actress in Me, You & Everyone We Know).
|Friday, July 29th, 2005|
So the day after I watch DIG twice (over 2 days) I read in the paper that the Brians Jonestown Massacre is playing at a local club and it's sold out. Gahhhhhhhh. I hope someone on CraigsList wants to sell me one.
Also, I missed the first group gathering that my friends have had in a long time (two of them took the bar exam) yesterday because somebody had the audacity to jump on the 3rd rail and the trains got shut down. Yes, I was actually pissed for a few brief moments at the inconvenience it caused my very important life. I'm such a prick.
Now, what the hell am I doing tonight? Current Mood: blank

Brief updates about stuff:
-I think I'm officially a regular at a local hipster bar. I've been drinking beer there every Wednesday with my comics in tow and yesterday not only did the bartender know my drink and ask me about my comics from last week, but she also gave me a free beer. I don't know if being a regular at a bar is a good thing or bad, but I am one.
-Nate and Kate have postponed their wedding for at least 1 year, also known as forever.
-On a related note, Nate and I have started a book club where we read popular things and talk about them for hours on the phone. We've had much fun with Gatsby.
-DC comics is being really awesome lately. Marvel, not so much.
-I'm addicted to Wendy's Chicken sandwiches
-The Woodsman sucked/DIG was super good
-I haven't paid my rent for July yet. No one seems to care.
-I bought an earlier Rilo Kiley CD and it rules more than the excellent newer one.
-I'm big on moping right now.
-I'm all caught up on the Powers comic.
I'm gonna go eat some pizza. Current Mood: blah
